The cabinet has approved a draft decision granting the single approval known as the golden licence to Shadwan Wind Energy, an Egyptian joint-stock company, for a wind power project at Ras Shukeir in Red Sea Governorate.
The licence covers building, producing, managing, operating and maintaining a plant generating 900 megawatts of alternating current from wind, with the electricity sold to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company. The company is registered under the domestic investment system set out in Investment Law 72 of 2017.
The cabinet said the project is due to be completed on 31 March 2028 and should provide work for about 2,500 engineers, workers and technicians during construction, followed by 50 technicians and workers through a 25-year operating period. Hiring priority goes to labour from Red Sea Governorate and neighbouring governorates.
The cabinet also said the scheme would contribute to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
