Crews are repairing a broken water line at Hurghada's Mamsha promenade

The company's head has ordered crews to pump away water pooling from the break so the area stays passable, with monitoring on site until the repair is finished.

Workers stand around a dug-up section marked with traffic cones on a paved promenade, with water pooled across the road beside a palm tree and a white pickup truck.

Teams from the Red Sea Drinking Water and Sanitation Company have started repairing a break in one of the water lines in the Mamsha tourist promenade area of Hurghada, the company said.

The company's head, Major General Bahaa Abdel Moneim Sayed El-Ahl, instructed operations and maintenance staff to finish the repair quickly and to send vehicles and equipment to pump away water pooling from the break, so that traffic and people can keep moving through the area.

Field monitoring is to continue until the repair is complete and any effects of the break have been dealt with.

The report does not say whether any part of the city has lost supply, or when the work is expected to finish.
