Hurghada Clears Concrete Blocks and Parking Barriers From Hadaba Streets After a Facebook Complaint

South Hurghada district has removed iron barriers, concrete blocks and other unauthorised obstacles that owners of residential and commercial premises had placed outside their buildings in the Hadaba area, acting on a complaint posted to a Facebook page, according to Sada El-Balad.

The complaint said owners were using the barriers to stop other people parking outside their properties and shops, obstructing people's movement and disfiguring the general appearance of the street.

Major General Ahmed Gaber, head of South Hurghada district, instructed the district secretary, Mohamed Rashed, to coordinate with the assistant head of the district and the field follow-up department, go to the site of the complaint and deal with the violations immediately, the outlet reports.

The campaign removed the iron barriers, concrete containers and illegal obstacles placed in front of a number of premises and reopened the road fully to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Legal action was taken over the violations recorded.

Gaber said the district deals seriously with residents' complaints, particularly those concerning encroachment on the public road or pavements, and that public places would not be allowed to be turned into private space, or parts of the road monopolised for the benefit of premises or individuals. He directed the district secretary and the field follow-up department to move quickly on complaints and reports reaching them through the complaints system, the district's official page, telephone reports, or posts spotted on social media pages.

The report does not say how many properties were involved, whether any fines were issued, or what happens if the barriers reappear.
