Hurghada's port is preparing to receive its first cruise-ship calls in November, Red Sea governor Walid El-Barqi said in comments to the Middle East News Agency.

He described the step as one meant to stimulate tourist activity, increase spending on supporting activities and services, and widen the mix of tourism the city draws.

El-Barqi named no ship, cruise line or arrival date, and the interview does not say how passengers would be received ashore.

In the same interview, he said the governorate's hotel capacity stands at about 90,000 rooms and is expected to reach 120,000 by the end of 2027 as hotel expansions and new projects come through.
