Roads in and south of Marsa Alam were passable on Monday after the previous night's rain, the Red Sea Governorate said, with road crews lifting flood silt from the Marsa Alam–Berenice road at Wadi El Gemal.
The Roads and Bridges Authority moved equipment including a sweeper and a loader to kilometre 33 of that road, in the Wadi El Gemal area, to clear deposits left by the rain and run-off.
The control centre of the National Emergency and Public Safety Network, working with Marsa Alam's emergency officer stationed at the Wadi El Gemal flood site, found no closure or obstruction to traffic, with some silt still being removed. Its director, Mohamed Riad, is tracking road conditions after the weather that hit the city overnight.
The secretary of Sheikh El-Shazly village reported that the Sheikh El-Shazly–Sheikh Salem road was sound and that traffic was running normally in both directions, after the road was swept and checked.
Governor Waleed El-Borai has kept all of the governorate's cities at maximum alert, with round-the-clock monitoring of the weather and of road conditions, and field checks are to continue until the clearance work is finished.
Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that the Marsa Alam–Shalatin road had reopened after traces of the flooding were removed at Wadi El Gemal.
