A rabies vaccination campaign run by the Red Sea veterinary directorate vaccinated 72 free-roaming dogs in Hurghada and Ras Ghareb, the directorate said.

The campaign was carried out by its licensing and dangerous-animals department. In Hurghada it covered the urban market area, El Salam Street and scattered parts of the city, along with a number of areas in Ras Ghareb.

The directorate said committees and field campaigns are continuing in all of the Red Sea governorate's cities to reach as many free-roaming dogs as possible, and described the work as both vaccination and sterilisation. It coincides with the launch of the first national rabies vaccination campaign, part of a state plan to declare Egypt free of rabies by 2030.
