A tipper truck caught dumping excavation waste on a public road in Hurghada's industrial zone has been suspended for three months and fined 100,000 Egyptian pounds, the Red Sea Governorate says.
The truck, which carried Hurghada plates, was stopped during a joint inspection by a governorate committee and the environmental police. Patrols worked Hurghada's ring roads from five in the morning, checking whether vehicles were following the rules on moving and disposing of demolition, construction and excavation waste, according to Sada El-Balad, El-Nabaa El-Watany, Ahram Gate and Veto.
The vehicle was impounded on the spot, and the governorate then imposed the three-month suspension and the fine.
The committee was assembled on the instructions of Red Sea Governor Dr Walid Abdel Azim El Barqi, with Deputy Governor Magda Hanna following up, and included the director of integrated waste management at the governorate's main office along with environmental police representatives.
The campaign was enforcing:
- Law 202 of 2020 on waste management
- its executive regulations, issued under Prime Ministerial decree 722 of 2022
- Red Sea governor's decree 1177 of 2026
The governorate says field inspections will continue, to keep roads and industrial areas clean and to curb practices that harm the environment and the look of the city.
The reports do not say who owns the truck, where the waste had come from, or whether the driver faces any separate penalty.
