El Gouna Photo Week returns to the town from 3 to 12 December. It is the event's second edition and its first since 2022, and it is organised by Photopia.
The programme is built around photographic exhibitions covering music, cinema, heritage and everyday life. The organisers say it will bring together photographers and photography enthusiasts from Egypt, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
One of the announced exhibitions, Umm Kulthum in Paris, revisits the concerts the singer gave in the French capital. Photographs by several photographers document her stage appearances and the audience around them.
A second exhibition draws on the archive of the Mohamed Bakr Studio. It spans about 70 years and combines the photographer's own work with that of his late father, Hussein Bakr; between them they documented Egyptian film productions and the performers in them.
"We wanted photography to have a space in which to tell the story of music and art," said Marwa Aboul Leila, executive director of El Gouna Photo Week, who added that photographs can bring back figures who left a lasting mark on the public's collective memory.
The announcement gives no venue details or ticket arrangements.
