Petrol and diesel have run short at fuel stations in El Quseir and Marsa Alam for a fourth consecutive day, with some stations out of stock, according to reporting by the Egyptian daily Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The shortage follows delayed petroleum shipments from the Egyptian Company for Petroleum Materials Transport. Some stations have stopped serving customers, and drivers described waiting at the pumps; one said he had left his car at a station until diesel arrived so he could finish his journey.
Officials at the Red Sea supply directorate told the newspaper they had contacted the company about the delay and were working to send tankers of petrol and diesel to stations in both cities within hours. Loads are dispatched from depots in Suez, roughly 600 to 700 kilometres away.
Red Sea governor Walid El-Borki said he had raised the delay with petroleum sector officials and that the shortage would end within hours. The report does not confirm that any delivery had reached the stations.
El Quseir and Marsa Alam sit on the road linking the southern Red Sea cities. Drivers warned that a continued shortage could hold up lorries and freight, and hauliers asked for arrangements that keep daily fuel quotas arriving regularly.
