Hurghada General Hospital Now Treats Varicose Veins With Laser Surgery
The hospital has carried out its first laser varicose-vein procedures — a treatment residents previously had to travel to other governorates for.

Hurghada General Hospital has started treating varicose veins with laser surgery, the Red Sea health directorate announced — the first time the procedure is available at the hospital, sparing patients a trip to other governorates for treatment.
What the new service offers
The first cases have already been carried out successfully, led by Dr Mohamed Medyen, consultant and head of the hospital's vascular surgery department, with an anaesthesia and nursing team.
Compared with conventional surgery, the laser technique is a less invasive option:
- Less pain during recovery
- A shorter hospital stay and faster return to normal life
- Better cosmetic results
Why it matters here
Varicose veins are among the most common vascular complaints, and until now the laser treatment meant travelling to Cairo or other governorates — a real barrier for many on the coast. Hospital director Dr Ahmed Abdel Ghani said the service is part of a push to expand specialised care at the hospital, under the supervision of the governorate's health directorate.
