Monday's Rain Eases on the Red Sea, But Marsa Alam and the South Still Face Thundery Showers
Rain chances on Monday are lower than over the past two days, forecasters say, though thundery showers are still expected over Marsa Alam, Halayeb and Shalateen. Temperatures start falling from Thursday.

Rain over Egypt on Monday will be lighter than over the past two days, but thundery showers are still expected along the southern Red Sea, according to Manar Ghanem of the Meteorological Authority's forecasting and early warning centre, speaking to the Middle East News Agency and carried by Sada El-Balad.
Ghanem said settled autumn weather continues on Monday across most governorates, with rain still falling in some areas as the Red Sea trough extends over the country. The rain that does fall will be concentrated on central and southern Sinai and the south of Red Sea Governorate.
For Monday she forecast light to moderate, at times thundery, rain over:
- Halayeb and Shalateen
- Marsa Alam
- the southern Red Sea mountain ranges
- southern Sinai and the Gulf of Aqaba
Showers may reach the far south of Upper Egypt. Ghanem warned that the rain clouds in those areas will be thundery, bringing downdraft winds and lightning, and said water fog is likely early in the morning on roads near open water, cutting visibility until the sun burns it off.
The cooler weather many have been waiting for arrives later in the week. Settled conditions hold on Tuesday and Wednesday, Ghanem said, and temperatures begin to drop from Thursday, by day and by night. From Wednesday an upper-air trough moves in, raising rain chances over the northern governorates and especially their coasts.
She advised keeping summer clothes for the daytime but carrying an extra layer for the evening and early morning, and driving slowly where fog forms. This update follows our report early on Sunday that thundery rain was forecast over the coast until Monday: the forecast has now eased for Hurghada and the north of the governorate, while the south keeps the risk.
