The El Gouna Film Festival's ninth edition carried 10 Arab titles in its main programme, the most in the festival's history, according to a dispatch published by the magazine A Rabbit's Foot. The account gives no dates for the edition.
The programme also included 67 international films and opened with the French satire All About Corrine, directed by Marc Fitoussi and starring Isabelle Huppert and Sandrine Kiberlain. Egyptian actress Mona Zaki received the festival's Creative Achievement Award at the opening ceremony.
This year's theme was Cinema for Humanity: Archiving Narratives. The dispatch describes two archive projects at the festival: a sound installation called Women on Record at the La Maison Bleue hotel, built around a vintage Egyptian gramophone, and Ways of Remembering: Records from Palestine in the Festival Plaza, which gathered archival photographs, oral testimonies, a film by FilmLab Palestine and heritage Palestinian seeds.
