The Red Sea governor has withdrawn the land for the second phase of Hurghada's Craftsmen City from the Ministry of Endowments, and the governorate is studying how to carry the phase out itself.
Governor Walid El-Barqi announced the withdrawal at an earlier meeting with workshop owners, saying the mechanisms for implementing the phase under the governorate would be examined.
The purpose he gave is to complete the project and move craft workshops to the area set aside for them outside the residential block, organising the trade and limiting its effects on housing areas.
El-Barqi said at that meeting that a count would be made of the workshops, their owners and the people entitled to places before the steps needed to finish the project, and that workshop owners' demands and needs would be taken into account.
No timetable, cost or start date for the second phase has been announced, and workshop owners are waiting for word on how it will be carried out.
The governor inspected the governorate's endowments directorate on Tuesday morning, days after announcing the withdrawal.
