The Red Sea Governorate says crews are repairing flood damage to the Abu Ramad–Halayeb coastal road at kilometre 8, north of Halayeb, after heavy rain in the far south of the governorate on Friday 6 November.
Checks with the General Authority for Roads and Bridges found the shoulders scoured and the asphalt broken where flood water ran across the road surface, said Mohamed Riyad, who heads the governorate's national emergency and public safety network control centre. He said machinery was moved to the damaged sections as soon as the reports came in, and that vehicles are still being let through and traffic secured while the work goes on.
Brigadier Tarek Lotfy, head of Halayeb city, said coordination with the roads authority is continuing to secure the damaged site. The governor asked for the work to be followed in the field so that travel between the southern cities is not interrupted. No completion date has been given.
