South Hurghada district has impounded an excavator that was demolishing a property without a licence in the schools area, during a field patrol checking building and demolition violations.

The machine will stay in the district's custody until the required licences and legal documents are produced.

Ayman Sultan, who heads the district, said the field campaigns would continue and that legal steps would be taken against violators. He had earlier instructed his assistant and the field monitoring section to step up patrols across the district and act on any violation immediately.

The district describes the campaign as carried out under directives from the Red Sea governor, Walid El-Barqi, and the head of Hurghada city, Ahmed Gaber, to enforce the law on building and demolition work done without permits.
