Mains electricity has been disconnected from Halayeb, in the south of Red Sea Governorate, as a precautionary step after heavy rain and flash flooding in Wadi El Shalal at the entrance to the city, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported. The paper said the competent authorities took the decision to avoid risks from water flows reaching parts of the electricity network. How long the cut will last was not given.

The governorate has asked people in Halayeb and Shalatin, and anyone near wadis and mountain areas, to stay away from flood channels, wadi courses and places where water collects, and not to approach flowing water or try to cross it. Drivers were asked not to risk crossing roads where water has pooled, and to put off journeys that are not essential in affected areas until the weather settles.

A report by the Water Resources Research Institute, which the governorate cited, put the chance of rain of varying intensity across scattered parts of the governorate between 6 and 8 November, with a higher chance of heavy rain over Halayeb and Shalatin.
