Free rabies vaccination for stray dogs runs this week in every governorate
The General Authority for Veterinary Services says field teams work through governorate veterinary directorates, and that reports and questions go to the veterinary hotline on 19561.

Egypt's General Authority for Veterinary Services began a week-long campaign on Sunday 1 November to vaccinate stray dogs against rabies free of charge in every governorate, which includes the Red Sea.
The authority says the work runs through veterinary directorates, with field teams coordinating with other bodies to reach targeted areas and vaccinate dogs under approved veterinary procedures. The announcement does not list locations or times for teams on this coast.
What the authority asks of residents
- Cooperate with the vaccination teams.
- Report suspected rabies cases and dog bites.
- Seek medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility immediately after an animal bite.
Reports and questions can go to a local veterinary directorate or unit, or to the veterinary services hotline on 19561. The authority says that line is for veterinary reporting and does not replace medical treatment.
The campaign also carries awareness activity on the risks of rabies and on handling dogs safely. It sits inside a national strategy, developed with the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization in 2021, that aims to end dog-mediated human rabies deaths by 2030, with a previously announced target of vaccinating 70 percent of the country's stray dogs.
The WHO advises anyone bitten or scratched by a potentially rabid animal to wash the wound with soap and water for at least 15 minutes and to seek urgent medical assessment and preventive treatment.
