Red Sea governorate asks residents to finish relinquishment files by 31 December
The governorate's secretary general told local units to publicise the deadline, at the first meeting of a committee that can only review files and recommend, not decide them.

Residents of Red Sea Governorate with unfinished relinquishment procedures have until 31 December 2026 to complete them, and the governorate has told its local units to make sure people know about the deadline.
The instruction came from Hassan Mowafi, the governorate's secretary general, at the first meeting of a committee set up by Governor Walid El-Barqi under decision 998 of 2026. He told local units in the governorate's cities to step up public awareness of the deadline and to clear obstacles residents face within the law.
The notice does not say which categories of transaction the relinquishment procedures cover, or where residents should file them.
The committee exists to unblock files that need several agencies to agree. Mowafi said it takes cases where the bodies involved hold differing views, matters the governor or secretary general refers to it, files of particular importance or large financial effect, and cases where the rules need interpreting or applying consistently.
Its powers are limited. Mowafi said the committee reviews reports and documents and makes recommendations, without touching the executive, technical, financial or legal responsibilities of the departments concerned.
At the meeting the committee went through cases sent in from Marsa Alam, El Quseir, Ras Ghareb and Safaga, with each to be examined separately once the required documents are complete.
