Hurghada at Forty Degrees: Packed Beaches, 137 Flights in a Day, Free Concerts in August
Around 40C has filled Hurghada's beaches — 50 pounds at the family beaches, 70 to 150 at the private ones, extra lifeguards on the sand — while 137 international flights landed in a single day and the Cultural Palace lines up 41 free shows for August.

A heat wave of around 40C has pushed residents and visitors in Hurghada onto the water. Al-Shorouk, reporting on 22 July under the "full house" signs going up along the shore, found the city's three government-run family beaches, the free open beaches to the north and the private stretches all heavily attended.
The paper put entry at 50 pounds for a family beach and between 70 and 150 pounds a ticket at the private beaches in the old Sheraton area, along the Promenade and in southern Hurghada, which are drawing day visitors from other governorates. The free open beaches north of the city remain the first resort for lower-income residents.
Ashraf Fouad, director of the social club in Hurghada, told Al-Shorouk the club had increased the number of chairs on the beach to absorb the expected numbers while keeping the tables spaced apart, and had added lifeguards, lifeguard posts along the shore and water-depth markers to protect children.
Youm7's June guide to the city's public beaches priced entry at 50 pounds at the Family Resort in the centre of town and at Family Beach 1 in the Qeyadat district, and at 20 pounds at Family Beach 2 — the former Merit, 400 metres long across 25,000 square metres, redeveloped at a cost of 50 million pounds.
Foreign arrivals are running at the same pitch. Tourism Daily News counted 137 international flights into Hurghada airport on Saturday 25 July, carrying visitors from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, the Netherlands and eastern Europe, with the airport adding staff at arrivals, passport control and customs and Red Sea hotels reporting high occupancy.
There is also a free option off the sand. Masrawy reported that Hurghada Cultural Palace hosts "Art Beach" from 5 to 29 August: 41 performances, all free, including folk dance troupes, Arabic music orchestras and children's opera brought in from Assiut, Alexandria, Giza and Matrouh, under the Culture Palaces Authority's "Culture is Life" project.
