Hurghada hotels served vegan buffets for World Vegan Day on 1 November

A chef at one hotel said eight cooks prepared the menus and that some vegan guests ask for tailored meals from their first day, which kitchens make up fresh each day.

Hotels and resorts in Hurghada marked World Vegan Day on Sunday with fully plant-based menus and dedicated buffets in their restaurants.

The spreads mixed Arabic and international dishes with vegan sandwiches and snacks, grilled vegetables and baked goods made without any animal ingredients.

Mohamed Abbas, the chef supervising the event at one hotel, said eight chefs from different departments took part. Some vegan guests ask for tailored meals from the first day of their stay, he said, and kitchen teams prepare those fresh each day to the guest's own requirements.

Because strict vegan diets exclude all animal products while other vegetarian patterns allow dairy or eggs, what goes into each dish matters for guests with specific dietary needs.

Taha Masaad, who manages a hotel in Hurghada, said occupancy rates currently run above 94 per cent. Whether that figure refers to his own hotel or to the city as a whole is not specified, and no official occupancy data was cited.
