Broken concrete and building rubble pushed across the sand into the shallows on a Red Sea beach, with a spit of rubble running out into the water and kitesurfers offshore. Published with the report on the infill north of Hurghada.

Environmental authorities in the Red Sea Governorate have recorded illegal infill work on the sea shore by one of Hurghada's hotel projects.

A committee was formed urgently to travel to the site and investigate the filling of parts of the sea with construction waste in the Al-Ahyaa area, north of Hurghada. The work came to attention after a video of it circulated on social media.

Ahmed Ghallab, director of the Red Sea protectorates, received a complaint about the case. Officials moved to the reported location and began the necessary legal procedures, and a specialised committee is to assess the environmental impact and the possible damage caused by the infill.

The hotel project is not named in the reporting, and no finding or penalty has been announced.
