The district says continuous water pumping planned for the area could waste large volumes if the tanks stay, and that patrols will remove tanks belonging to residents who do not comply.

South Hurghada district has told residents of the Abu Ashara area and the streets behind the Arab Contractors buildings to remove all underground water tanks within a week of its announcement. The district did not publish a calendar deadline; the announcement was reported on 6 November.
The local unit said round-the-clock water pumping is due to start in the area, and that large quantities of water could be wasted if the tanks stay in place. It also wants the streets clear of obstacles before tree-pruning and landscaping work.
Posters and leaflets have gone up in the area's streets. Maj. Gen. Ahmed Gaber, head of Hurghada city, said inspection patrols would check compliance and that the authorities would remove the tanks of residents who do not act.
