A flash flood in the Wadi El Gemal area cut the road between Marsa Alam and Shalatin on Monday 26 October, stopping traffic on the affected stretch.

The flood followed a night of long, heavy rain over Shalatin and the mountain valleys south of Marsa Alam, including the Berenice and Wadi El Gemal areas. Water gathered in the wadis until it reached flood level.

A source at the Red Sea Governorate's main office told Al-Shorouk that the road was working again after stopping for a short time. That account comes from an unnamed source.

Hail fell heavily in parts of Shalatin early on Monday, after thunderstorms with lightning that began late on Sunday evening.

Authorities have urged drivers on the Marsa Alam–Shalatin road not to try to cross a flood channel or approach standing water until the danger has passed and safe passage is allowed. The governorate has also asked residents to stay away from wadi beds, flood paths and low-lying ground while the unsettled weather lasts, and to follow official statements.

Weather reports followed by the governorate warned that rain could continue on Monday over the Red Sea mountains and in Halayeb and Shalatin.
