Tourism Ministry closes 26 hotel facilities in Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Safaga

Discos, health clubs, massage centres, meeting halls and children's clubs are among the facilities shut on civil protection advice until they pass a fresh inspection.

29 October 2026

The Tourism Ministry has notified hotel and tourist establishments on the Red Sea coast that 26 facilities inside them are to close, in Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Safaga.

The closures follow recommendations from the Civil Protection Department, which found the facilities did not meet its requirements.

They cover a range of activities run inside the establishments, including discos, health clubs, massage centres, meeting halls and children's clubs.

Managers have been told which conditions and observations they must address, in coordination with the Tourism Ministry's office. The facilities are to be inspected again before they can reopen. The establishments were not named.

The stated aim is to check fire prevention and protection requirements and to secure guests, staff and other users, particularly in activities that draw crowds or offer entertainment, sports and health services.
